Preface

Unification of gravitational force with other forces has been a dream of physicists since the beginning of the 20th century. The search started by Einstein, and joined by rest of physics community for a whole century along the approach of general relativity and quantum field theory, without any success. The reason is that both general relativity and quantum field theory are divergent theories. The effort of the whole physics community to patch up the theoretical singularities makes much of the theoretical physics of 20th century, which has led physics astray. Unification through general relativity and quantum field theory proves hopeless.

We developed a classical theory of unification of the gravitational and electromagnetic forces in 20181 and presented it in a series of international conferences. The unification theory is mathematically rigorous and complete without any ad hoc hypothesis. The only postulation of the theory is that Newton’s law of gravitation needs a dynamic term to explain the propagation of gravitational wave and answer the historical question of action-at-distance. It turns out, amazingly, that this generalization alone is sufficient to develop a whole dynamic theory of gravitation, together with the field equations and the wave equation of gravitation. The theory takes exactly the same form of Maxwell’s theory of electrodynamics, which predicts that the gravitational wave propagates with the same speed of light.

Besides explaining the action-at-distance, our unification theory has made an important discovery – the Wang’s Law which says that the total linear momentum of the gravitational field transmitted into space is conserved. The theory has proved that the inverse square law is an accurate law, as accurate as the area of a spherical surface is proportional to the square of its radius.

The book gives a brief historical account of the search of a unification theory, and the problems with the various theories of the pioneers. It also includes a brief discussion of the fundamental problems with the two pillars of theoretical physics of 20th century – general relativity and quantum field theory, which explains why it is hopeless trying to unify the fundamental forces through the approach of general relativity and quantum field theory.

At the end of the book, the discussion evolved into a general evaluation of the modern theoretical physics. The shift of paradigm has led to violation of many fundamental physics laws, basic concept and logic. The book includes a broad discussion of the shift of philosophy, logic and the standard of experimental checking of scientific theories from science towards medieval mythology and theology. The book concludes with an outcry: science needs nothing less than a renaissance.

Chapters 4, 5 and 6 provide mathematical details of our unification theory and the derivation of Wang’s Law. These can serve as a reference for professionals in their further research. The readers not quite interested in mathematical details can benefit from the rest of the book. The directions of continued research are suggested. Specifically, the author has made a general suggestion for the whole physics community: Start a general experimental survey of the nuclear reactions of all isotopes, and build a broad data base so that some regularity or periodicity of the nuclear interactions can be identified.  The hope of breakthrough rests on the study of the structure of the nuclides, not the nucleons. Proton and electron do not have structure and do not decay, not at the current understanding of physical science.

It is our hope that the scientific community can learn from the fundamentally unsolvable inconsistencies of the current theoretical physics, and jump out of the theoretical abyss, turning from theological and mythological mindset to the scientific one, and redirect physical science along the scientific approach in the new century.
