Chu Han’s New Book Introduction
Jan.20, 2013
There is a writer and columnist living in Madison, Wisconsin, whose name is Chu Han. He has recently published his sixth book by a publishing house in Taiwan, “The Wheat Never Dies.” This book reveals the miserable experience of the underclass and distressed in today’s China, whose stories are often unheard or purposely overlooked by most of Chinese society.
Chu Han says that the book title is taken from St John’s Gospel, which states, “I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.”
Chu Han was born in eastern China, near Shanghai in 1975. He practiced law for over 5 years in China, helping the poor, sufferering, and distressed throughout his career. Although the Chinese economy has grown remarkably in recent history, over 10 million people continue to live in poverty, as the sacrifice for China’s economic advancement. For this reason, Chu Han believes the poor have been cheated of their rights. His experiences as a lawyer form the basis and inspiration for “The Wheat Never
Dies.” It was Chu Han’s dream as a child, for the cause of liberty and justice, to help poor, sufferering and distressed. Now he is a member of Independent Chinese PEN Center(ICPC).ICPC is a transnational non-governmental organization registered in the United States, dedicated to safeguarding freedom of speech.
Chu Han expressed his great sympathy and compassion to these men and women suffering way beyond people could normally image. He is a writer of fluency and felicity, of graciousness and sympathy. “The Wheat Never Dies” portrays an important but usually neglected aspect of our current society and vicissitudes of ages in China. Chu Han
emphasizes that “The Wheat Never Dies” is reality, and he will continue to communicate the struggles experienced by the underclass and distressed in
modern China.
